When planning our trip Kim had one demand. We had to go to the Vatican. After a lot of research I found the “Pristine Sistine” Tour. This tour allowed you to go in as a small tour group and see the Sistine Chapel before it was open to the general public. Little did we know that we would also get four hours of touring the Vatican museum and St. Peter’s Basilica. That’s four hours of constant walking and stairs, and walking and stairs, and walking……… Remember, Nana’s got a broken foot!
A note about our tour guide. Marta was incredible! Before we even entered the Vatican she started going through all the information on how Leonardo painted the Sistine chapel. With handouts and pictures she did an incredible job of making the material interesting and preparing us for what we were about to see. In the future we will be taking advantage of tour guides a lot more often.

Raphael’s The School of Athens

After walking through the museum we finally enter St. Peter’s Basilica. This is the largest church in Christendom. They day we were there a Philippine group was in town and was having a special service with many of their cardinals in attendance. If you look close in the one picture you can just see the red robes of the Cardinals.
