Piazza San Marco

A short walk from the Rialto (and many twists and turns) we step in to St Marks Square. You round a corner and BAM, there is St. Marks Cathedral.

Of course, we need to get a picture of the pretty blonde with the lion statue plundered from some far-away land. As soon as I get this picture a hawker comes up and sells us miniature pasta and the birds descend!

We visited St. Mark’s Square before the cruise and after we got back. Watching the movie Inferno will never be the same. These pictures are from the Balcony of the catheral where they filmed some of the movie.

During our second visit we noticed a lot of portable platforms stacked up around the plaza. Here is a picture before we entered the Cathedral.

Here is the piazza less than 2 hours later:

The high tide started coming up through the drains and quickly spread across the plaza.

And it wouldn’t be a right without coming across another wedding party (we saw three during our trip)

Some more neat pictures of the square:

Inside the Cathedral and the Doja’s Palace each get their own entry. There was just so much to see.
