Doje’s Palace in Venice

The elected king of Venice had quite the crib. Here is the view from the piazza:

Walking into the palace the first thing you see is the courtyard.

You can see the basilica in the background. You can also see two of the original cisterns.

Like a lot of the tourist sites in Italy there is a specified way you have to go through the site. There is a river of people that move through this palace every day. Don’t even think about going against the flow. You will be run over.

After ascending the staircase we go through rooms and rooms of paintings, murals, frescos. It really is a sensory overload. Here is a few of the endless artworks we saw:

This painting covered the entire wall of the main assembly room. It’s the largest single painting ever made:

Of course you can’t go to the Doge’s Palace without going across the bridge of sighs over to the prison.

This pictures is one of those special ones where you are in the right place at the right time. Looking out from the bridge of sighs….
