Traveling “Across the Pond”

8/25/17 – 8/26/17 8:30AM (CEST)

Even though we have been all over the US, Caribbean and parts of Canada we had never made a trip to Europe.  Since this was our first trip across the pond I tried to make the most of it by giving us a fighting chance to quickly get over jet Lag.

After all those years of my TDYs and Kim’s traveling to open surgery centers we had enough miles built up to buy business class over and back.  As I said in an iMessage to the family:  “Flying International Business Class doesn’t suck”.

While the dinner they serve (including Ice Cream) is pretty good the best part of international business class is hitting the magic button and having your seat turn into a completely flat bed.  Words cannot begin to describe how nice this is!  Fell asleep over the Atlantic, woke up as we were passing over France into Italy.

I’ve heard that a lot of the big international carriers are even more luxurious but United’s Polaris Business class was just fine for a kid that grew up in a small town in Michigan.

Details:  Flew 1st class from TPA to DIA, Business class from DIA to Rome (FCO).  Total time around 13 hours (includes 50 minute delay at Dulles).  They flew a modified Great Circle Route.
